Pittsburgh Passion win Season Opener 66-0!

The Pittsburgh Passion defeated Thee Toledo Reign on the road to start the 2015 season 1-0.

The  Passion won the opening coin toss and on the first play from scrimmage Quarterback Lisa Horton completed a 41 yard pass to Rachel Wojdowski.  And on the next play, Passion Rookie Running Back Tara Catone ran it into the endzone from 10 yards out to score her first career touchdown on her very first carry  putting  the Passion up 6-0.

On the next drive, Catone  ran it 43 yards on the first play of the drive for a Touchdown (her second in as many tries)  to extend the Passion's lead to 13-0. Catone become the first passion player to score on her first two caries to start a career.  Horton connected on a 10 yd pass with Rachel Wojdowski bringing the Passion lead to 20, next Octavia Griswold scored on the ground followed by a 30 yard pass to Sharon Vazquez for a touchdown. Tia Montgomery scored next with a 2 yd run, followed by Horton connecting to Angela Baker on a 5 yd pass, and finally Krystal Cozzo returned a punt to bring the Passion lead to 53 -0 at Halftime.

Passion Offensive Leaders in the game were Quarterback Lisa Horton, who was 7/8 for 139 and 3 Touchdowns.  Rookie Running Back Tara Catone had 3 rushes for 62 yards and 2 Touchdowns.  Tia Montgomery also had 4 carries for 23 yards and a Touchdown. Other running backs with touchdowns were Octavia Griswold, Sarah Neidermeyer (1st career touchdown), & Remy Olinzock (also first career touchdown)  Passion Wide Receivers Rachel Wojdowski and Angela Baker combined for 6 receptions, 109 yards and 2 Touchdowns.

On the Defensive Side of the ball, the Defense recorded the 42nd shutout in team history. Hometown heros from Toledo, OH Octavia and Olivia Griswold led the defense combining for 11 tackles and 2 sacks.  The Defensive had two fumble recoveries, and the Defensive Line had control in the trenches led by Kim Zubovic and Jessica Nelko making tackles at and behind the line of scrimmage.

Cozzo's punt return put her in the Passion Record books as she became the first Passion player in history to have an offensive, defensive and special teams Touchdown in her career. Amy Fallon scored 4 PAT's and Kate Sullivan scored a two-point conversion on an end around.

The Pittsburgh Passion are 1-0  and have their home opener next weekend against Philadelphia (April 18 @ 7 pm) at George Cupples Stadium.
